Reda El Wakeel        bass baritone

Reda studied in Cairo with Gelane Rathle and Violette Makkar, and in Spain with Imgard Seefried. Also he studied at “Ecole Normale de Musique de Paris” with Caroline Dumas and Michel Roux, where he obtained the soloist Diploma.
Mr. El Wakil is a winner of several international competitions, namely the 1st Prize at the “ Placido Domingo’s Competition in Paris” in 1994, the 4th Prize at the International Competition of Paris in 1994, the 1st Price and Public Prize At the International Competition of Toulouse in 1994. In 1994 he was distinuished with the State Merit Award in Egypt 1994.
He performed the main roles of Don Giovanni, Conte Almaviva, Don Alfonso in the famous Mozart operas.Reda also played the main bass roles of numerous operas, like La Boheme, Tosca, Madama Butterfly, Turandot, Les Pecheurs de Perles, Carmen, Thais, Anas El- Wogood, Il Barbier di Siviglia, Il Signor Bruschino, L’Elisir d’Amore, Il Trovatore, Aida, Un Ballo in Maschera, Rigoletto, La Traviata, The Magic Flute, as well as Ramfis and Il Re in the international productions of Aida in Pyramids 87, Louxor 97, Pyramids 98, 99 & 2001. He has been performing internationally since1987 (Yougoslavia, Bulgaria , England, Italy, Poland, Germany) and specially in France since 1995, on the stages of the Opera Bastille, in Avignon and Nimes 1996, the Opera Comique Paris 1996, Theatre du Capitole Toulouse 1995 and 1997, in Montpellier 1998, Palm Beach, Florida (January 1999).
Reda also took part in 1999’s Massenet Festival in Saint-Etienne, as Timour in “Le Roi de Lahore”, which he also played in Bordeaux in the same year. He returned to Toulouse in Butterfly 1999, and Opera Bastille in Turandot 1999, Carmen, Les Contes d’ Hoffmann, and Rigoletto 2000. He went to Genova for Jerusalem (Verdi) 2000, Toulouse for Rigoletto 2001.He sang in Madama Butterfly (Puccini) in Santiago Chili 2001. April 2002, Palm Beach, Florida, in Tannhauser as Landgraf.November 2005 & 2006, Un Ballo in Maschera & Mozart Vesperae Solemnes& Messa dell'incoronazione in Bari. April 2008 , La Fanciulla del West in teatro dell Opera di Roma. In July 2008, Aida in Pekin, China.
